The SUSTech Society of Fellows in Liberal Arts invites applications for Class of 2018 junior fellows in interdisciplinary social sciences and humanities studies. These fellowships aim at fostering the academic careers of scholars who have recently received their PhD. degrees by providing a competitive package and an interdisciplinary scholarly community.
The Society of Fellows admits up to 5 junior fellows for Class of 2018. These fellowships normally run for 24 months.
Successful applicants are expected to take up their appointment in August, 2018, and hold conjunctional appointments as Lecturers in the Institute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences at SUSTech. This appointment is not tenure-track and is non-renewable.
During the term of their appointment, fellows are expected to teach 6-credit courses, participate in the activities of the Society (including attending the Society’s seminars and presenting their own work), and are required to complete their own proposed research project. Fellows are also required to be in residence during the spring and fall academic terms.
To apply, candidates must have received their PhD. no earlier than May, 2015 and must have completed their doctoral degree by August, 2019.
The university teaching languages are English and Chinese. Non-Chinese citizens are eligible to apply for this program. Satisfactory knowledge of Chinese is preferable but not required.
Stipend and Resources:
Fellows receive an annual stipend plus research allowances in total of of RMB400,000 (US $60,000). Benefits include university subsidized housing and health insurance.
The Society will also provide Fellows with office space, as well as access to the library and public laboratory facilities at SUSTech.
